Long story short.. its my wife's birthday today (seriously) and I bought her
Zoo Tycoon 2 yesterday because I know she loves zoo animals and would love a
game like that. I dl the demo a few days ago and it worked fine.

Then I installed the full game telling her that it would most likely come
with a tutorial, which it did thankfully, and she played it for about 2 hours
and loved it. Then we went out to dinner and when we came back she wanted to
make a chance to something and she loaded it again and all of a sudden there
were problems. Ive posted images, but I dont understand it. I hadnt made any
changes to my system at all since the install hours earlier and the demo was
uninstalled and it had worked perfectly. I did everything including updating
my driver to the latest version but i am still all of a sudden getting these
screen tearings and then the system will hang and then monitor will go "out
of scan range" and will turn black.

After restarting the pc I am left with having to try other ideas only to
come up empty again. The game worked fine when I installed it for a few hours
and I have done everything including the following:

1. update drivers to 6.3
2. change color depth from 32 to 16 and back
3. Turn hardware excelleration down a few notchces
4. mess with basic resolution settings
5. change refresh rate
6. Tried official update from site
7. Tried installing game to default directory i.e. program files instead of my
games folder.......who knows.

but so far I am still left with this wierd tearing and snow all over the
screen (see pic) all of a sudden for a bout a minute then the screen goes
black and monitor light goes orange..

Does anyone have any other ideas? She really loves this game and was just
getting into it...I just cant figure it out and its really bugging me...

TOTAL shot in the dark:

Does your graphics card have its own fan? If so, is it working? Is it
clogged with dust?

This... you may have done it... im using a Radeon 9800 Pro and its fan wasnt running at ALL...unfortunatelly after a thurough dusting a inspection and using a different power supply hookup and inspecting the fan hookup its still wont power up.. the card works apparently, but the fan wont spin.. it was rather clogged with dust too. I try to clean my PC regularly, but something like that can go overlooked... however..now what.. the card is old so what are my options..guess I can send it back to ATI... :( Even if it wasnt the problem with Zoo Tycoon, it sure will be a problem in the future... thanks!
