distorted main menu on Zoo Tycoon 2

HELP!!!! I have just bought Zoo Tycoon for my daughter and it seemed to
install ok.
When I click on the shortcut to run the game it goes fine through the
opening logo films and then the point where the main menu comes on screen
seems to be only in the middle of the screen with a pale blue edging at each
side and the letters are very large and distorted.
Has anyone else encountered this and if so is there a way to sort it. I have
tried all the compatibility things and various resolutions and 16/32 bit
colours.

It looks like the video card is sending a signal out of sync with the
monitor, did you install the proper drivers for both?

I had this too, and it was an issue with my Matrox Parhelia graphics
card not supporting DirectX 9 properly. You can get a beta DX9 driver
from their site and then it works, but you're stuck using a beta driver
without proper support and without being guaranteed good performance for
video-editing etc. (i.e. all the things you would have a Matrox Parhelia
for in the first place), so I had to give up on it and hope they fixed
the bug eventually. My ZT2 CD's been gathering dust for a year or so now
:( Not impressed.

I had the same problem. I was running a 2yr old video card (Asus 8170). It
appears Asus latest driver which I down loaded and installed wasn't
compatible with DirectX 9.c. I was advised to down load the latest NVIDA
video drivers and install them instead of the ASUS drivers and the problem
was solved.
