The Zoo Tycoon game that I have will not install. I’m hoping you can help,
or direct me to someone who can.

I have had the game for approximately 2 years. I originally purchased it
for our granddaughter. I successfully installed it as well as its successors
Marine Mania and Extinct Animals. For reasons I cannot recall I uninstalled
all Zoo Tycoon games from our computer several months ago (perhaps our
granddaughter “hung” the original game).

Now, when I select the Install on the start-up, it only executes the
“uninstall”, and informs me that the uninstall was successfully completed. I
cannot direct the game to execute the install.

So far, I have cleaned the disc; tried the install from another CD/DVD drive
(we have two); restarted using a clean boot, and emptied the temporary files
folder; restarted with only the bare Microsoft system programs; created a new
account; tried to install in safe mode; and checked our hard drive for disk
errors. None of these proposed solutions have worked.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I sent one game back because I thought
it was faulty. I was sent a new disc which won't install only asks me to
uninstall. I've gone through the registry editor and deleted all traces of
zoo tycoon 2 but it still does'nt work. It seems to be a common problem on
windows vista. I loaded it successfully on my parents windows XP with no
trouble at all. Can anyone help? My 9 year old is so dissappointed and I'm
not particularly literate on the PC. Really need a solution.

I had the same issue but with Marine Mania. The Microsoft help people told
me to do the following. I think renaming the install folder was the key. I
did that and nothing else and I got Marine Mania to install.

---------------------

Please follow the below mentioned steps to resolve this issue.

Step 1: Rename the InstallShieldInstallationInformation folder
1. Right click on Start and then click on Explore.
2. Double click on C drive and then double click on Program files
3. Rename the InstallShieldInstallationInformation to
InstallShieldInstallationInformation.old

Note: If the folder InstallShieldInstallationInformation is not visible
follow the steps below:

1) Click on Start and then click on My Computer
2) On the Menu Bar, Click on Tools and then click on Folder Options
3) Click on View tab on the Folder Options Dialogue box
4) Select Show hidden files and folders
5) Uncheck the option Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)

Now the folder C:\Program Files\InstallShieldInstallationInformation is
visible.

Step 2: Install Windows Installer Clean Up Utility.

1. Click on the link given below and click on Run.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

2. Click on Run and then click on Run again.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Windows Installer Clean
up utility.
4. Click on Start and then click on All Programs
5. At the bottom of All Programs locate and select Windows Install Clean Up.
6. A window will appear with the list of multiple programs installed on your
system.
7. Click on Zoo Tycoon 2 and then click on Remove.
8. Click on Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania and then click on Remove.

NOTE: Make sure that only Zoo Tycoon 2 and Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania is
selected and nothing else.

Step 3: Uninstalling the game

1. Click on Start
2. Click on All programs
3. Click on Microsoft Games
4. Click on Zoo Tycoon 2
5. Click on Uninstall Zoo Tycoon 2.

Step 4: Remove the game folder
1. Right click on Start
2. Click on Explore
3. Click on Program Files
4. Double click on Microsoft games folder.
5. Select the Zoo Tycoon 2 folder and press the Delete key on the keyboard.

Step 5: Uninstall the game
1. Click on Start, click on Run
2. Type appwiz.cpl in the open box and then click on Ok.
3. Select the Zoo Tycoon 2 and click on Remove.

Step 6: Uninstall the game from Registry.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you could solve problems that result from using
Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Remove the game entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. In the box type regedit and press Enter key.
4. Double Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
5. Double Click on Software
6. Double Click on Microsoft
7. Double Click on Microsoft Games
8. Select Zoo Tycoon 2 and press Delete key on the keyboard.

Remove the game entries under HKEY_CURRENT_USER
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. In the box type regedit and press Enter key.
4. Double Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER
5. Double Click on Software
6. Double Click on Microsoft
7. Double Click on Microsoft Games
8. Select Zoo Tycoon 2 and press Delete key on the keyboard.

Note: Restart the computer before installing.

Step 7: Reinstall the game.
1. Insert the game disc of Zoo Tycoon 2 in the drive.
2. Click Express Install during setup.
