I just bought the complete edition of Zoo Tycoon and I'm having a couple of
problems. I have played the demo and none of these really came up. I started
on a large piece of land cause I want to get as much as possible so maybe
that's some of the problem. Anyway, my guest don't eat or drink or go to the
bathroom. I've put up eating and drinking places on the more popular paths,
and not so popular, and still they won't do anything but bitch and moan
about being hungry or thirsty. Because of this my guest happyness is around
60. Now may animal happyness is always between 97 and 99 so I know it's not
that. Does anybody else have this problem and if so is is because I only
have like 8 exibits and 16 animals on such a huge chunk of land? I'm trying
to take my time and make sure every little bit is perfect but my guests are
just being a pain. I've also set the admission price to $10 just to give
them something to be happy about.

Couple other quick questions for all you tycoons out there!!
How can you get guests to go around an exibit, or go to one at all, I've
tries placing things they need and want close but they could care less about
that, they just like the shows and make a mad dash to them and then sit
there bitching about being hungry? Espesially ones in corners and for some
reason they don't like dinos.

I don't have a big enough zoo yet but this was a huge problem in the demo.
Nobody likes any exibits. I look at the popularity of an exibit and all I
could get is 1.5 stars at the most, no matter how much fancy and pretty
stuff I put up. Of course in the full version now I can't get even a half a
star. So what's up with that?

And one last question. Should I mix up the areas of the zoo or should I have
like the east side for dinos, west side for marine animals and so on or does
that even matter? Cause I was thinking of just placing show animals all over
(there are in one spot now cause they are seperated by marine, dino, and
normal) the park just to get some traffic to the other areas.

Anyway sorry this was so long but I'm hoping someone out there has an answer
or two for me!

Hey, Bob!
I've been playing ZT Complete Edition for about a month now.

I'm going to try and answer your questions one at a time.

I started
on a large piece of land cause I want to get as much as possible so maybe
that's some of the problem. Anyway, my guest don't eat or drink or go to the
bathroom. I've put up eating and drinking places on the more popular paths,
and not so popular, and still they won't do anything but bitch and moan

TIP: Restaurants are better than food stands. I've found that remarkably,
even when I only have one or two drink stands on a large zoo, one is STILL
not making a profit! Meanwhile the restaurants are making money hand over
fist. You can still use one or two food stands (like the burger stand,
hotdogs don't sell so well) and a drink stand, but restaurants make your
guests happier. Bathrooms are still necessary and you can't have too many of
those! People get angry when they can't find a bathroom.
Also, place plenty of benches and picnic tables. I've found my guests use
the picnic benches more than the benches, so use your benches around the
exhibits, only 3 or 4 are necessary per exhibit.
Place trash cans near your food stands and picnic benches. Hire enough
maintenance workers to empty trash and even MORE to fix fences when your zoo
starts getting bigger. You can set some of your MW to just empty trash and
set the rest of them to fix fences. If you have enough Maintenance workers
fixing your fences, you can relax a little and know that for the most part
they will get fixed in a timely manner.
Gardens and foliage ALSO make your guests happy. Create a few well placed
gardens here and there for your guests.
A zoo guide sign (that green & white table looking thing also increases your
guests happiness. Two or three of those in a large zoo increases your guests
happiness.

There are other items you can download that'll really increase your guests
happiness. I have found the Zoo Admin site ( http://zoo.ogresnet.com/ ) has
the most reliable downloads because they try them and fix them before
offering them on the website. (.dll files go in your main zoo tycoon folder,
.ztd files go in your zoo tycoon/updates folder) I trust them implicitly.
No crashes from any items from them.
Items I've downloaded that increased guest happiness are the "path pack",
the "The Rainforest Cafe" and "The Animal Adoption Center", "Photo Booth"
and somewhere in there is a map stand (shop).

Also, play the scenarios, they unlock items when you win them. Also look for
Zoo Tycoons cheats on that zoo admin site. Renaming your guests and exhibits
furthers the game for you and you can add additional money to your fund.
(note: when you use the "more money" cheat - shift + 4, it breaks down your
fences, so increase your money BEFORE you start building your zoo).

Animal Houses (reptile house, etc) don't really do much for your guest
happiness, I figure those are just "filler" in your zoo which would be
better used as gardens and statues. *whew* next question...

Hire PLENTY of tour guides. Guests LOVE tour guides. Assign two to four
exhibits to each tour guide, double up tour guide assignments in some areas.

I'm sure you probably know this, but when you assign a zookeeper or
scientist to a specific exhibit, you can click on the animal in the exhibit
and then click on the keeper in the window that pops up and he'll tell you
how suitable an exhibit is for your animal. That's the only explanation I
can come up with, that your exhibit isn't suitable enough yet for your
animal.

I don't think that makes a difference. I also like to set areas of the zoo
for particular types of animals. I also make it a point to have enough
foliage or space between the zoo tycoon animals and the dinosaurs. I think
it upsets them, but that is just my opinion.

I hope I've been some help to you. Email me if you have more questions or
better yet, post them here. I'd love to get this newsgroup going. It's
pretty dead around here. AND STOP BY THE ZOO ADMIN SITE! Great stuff there
and it's all reliable!
Warmest Regards,
Dee
